To kick off the ‘250 years TU Clausthal’ anniversary year, the two well-known TU jazz formations will be playing from their current programmes. The singing TUC Vocals Rock, Pop & Jazz Choir together with Melvin Wand will kick things off on Saturday, 8 February, at 7 pm in the auditorium of the Robert Koch School in Clausthal-Zellerfeld. While the choir mainly sings a cappella, Melvin Wand focuses on vocals and piano. The following Sunday, 9 February at 5 pm, the choir will sing in the Hahnenkleer Stabkirche, this time together with the swinging TUC jazz combo of the big band. On Saturday 15 February at 7 pm, the grooving TUC Big Band will finish the concert series in the Aula Academica in Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

The joint end-of-semester concerts by the choir and big band in February and June each year have become a firm tradition in the Upper Harz region. This year, the concert date in the Clausthal Aula Academica was supplemented by further concerts in Goslar, Seesen and most recently in Badenhausen. The Jazz Combo consists of a small, changing line-up of members of the Big Band. Originally planned for short official appearances at the TU, the combo has also been playing its own concerts for some time and performed at the 3rd Clausthal Blues Night 2024, among others.

The three formations consist mainly of students and employees of Clausthal University of Technology as well as some external members from the surrounding area and are committed to democracy and openness. The members come from different countries and are as diverse as TU Clausthal itself. To mark the 250th anniversary celebrations, the TUCs will be holding a special anniversary concert entitled ‘Global Harmony’ on 28 June. To this end, students have been asked for suggestions for international pieces of music from their home countries. These suggestions will be used to create exclusive and unique jazz arrangements from the pens of composer friends, including Lutz Krajenski.

Three concerts - three unique stage sets! Numerous in-house productions characterise the work of the formations. The singing TUC Choir sings songs such as ‘Lieblingsmensch’ by Namika and ‘Smooth Operator’ by Sade in arrangements penned by its choirmaster André Wenauer. The programme of the groovingTUC Big Band includes ‘Hello’ in the version by Adam Neely and ‘Super Trooper’ in the version by trombone legend Nils Landgren as well as own arrangements by bandleader Domenic Eggers and other special vocal, jazz and bebop numbers. The combo mainly plays swing and Dixie classics as well as the occasional rock or pop tune. As always, admission is free. However, the ensembles ask for a donation to support their musical work. If you are interested in singing in the choir or playing in the big band, please get in touch by email (popchor@tu-clausthal.de or bigband@tu-clausthal.de). We look forward to hearing from you!
